What you’ll need
1 pound beef flank steak
12 ounces 1 head of broccoli
Sesame seed oil
Soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Rice cooking wine
Sugar or honey
Cornstarch
Baking soda

Preparation of ingredients
Seasonings
Step 1- Chop 3 ounces in weight of green onions and press 1 to 2 cloves garlic with a garlic press.
Ginger
Step 2- Peel 1 ounce of fresh ginger using a fruit or potato peeler. Cut the ginger into slices using a knife and press the ginger using a garlic press.
Broccoli
Step 3- Rinse off 1 head of broccoli really well with cold water. Cut the stems off of the broccoli florets with a knife and separate the broccoli florets.
Flank steak
Step 4- Cut the steak into strips going against the grain. The grain of the steak is going down the length of steak. Cut across the length going horizontally. Picture demo is shown below.
Tenderizing the steak
Step 5- Place the steak strips into a medium-sized bowl. Add 1/3 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Toss the steak strips with your hands. Let the mixture marinate for 8 to 10 minutes.
Step 6- Rinse the steak strips off really well with cold water. Pat the steak strips dry with napkins
Cooking the steak strips
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 7- Add 1 or 2 teaspoons vegetable or canola oil into a heated saucepan. Add the steak strips and stir. Let sauté for 2 minutes. Once done the steaks will release their juices. Add the steak and the juices into a large strainer and let cool for 5 minutes.
Step 8- Add 2 teaspoons sesame seed oil into a heated saucepan. Add your steak strips and stir. Let sauté for 1 to 2 minutes. Once done turn your fire off. Add the steak strips into a large strainer and let cool.
Blanching the Broccoli
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 9- Add 1 and 1/2 quarts water and 1/2 teaspoon salt into a medium-sized pot. Stir and let the water come to a simmer. Add the broccoli florets and stir. Let simmer for 1 minute. Once done turn your fire off. Add the broccoli florets into a strainer and let cool completely.
Soy sauce mixture

Step 10- Add 3/4 cup water and 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch into a large measuring cup. Stir with a whisk until combined.
Cooking the sauce
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 11- Add 1/2 cup rice cooking wine, 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 or 3 tablespoons oyster sauce, the pressed ginger, 2 tablespoons sugar, and your cornstarch mixture into a medium-sized pot. Stir all ingredients with a whisk until combined. Let simmer for 8 to 10 minutes. Once done turn your fire off and let the sauce cool completely.
Assembling the beef and broccoli
Preheat fire to medium high heat.
Step 12- Add 2 or 3 teaspoons sesame seed oil into a heated sauce pan and spread it around. Let it get hot for 30 seconds. Add 2/3 chopped green onions ends and stir for 1 minute. Add 1 or 2 cloves pressed garlic and stir.
Step 13- Add seared beef steak strips and stir. Add blanched broccoli florets and stir.
Step 14- Add the soy/oyster sauce and stir until the sauce coats the beef strips and the broccoli for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Step 15- Turn your fire off and let the mixture cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
