Preparation of ingredients
Dumpling dough

Step 1- Add 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 9 tablespoons unsalted butter (Cold) and 9 tablespoons butter flavored vegetable shortening (Cold) into a large food processor. Pulse 19 to 20 times or until the butter and the shortening are cut into the flour. you pulse the ingredients, make sure it’s a long pulse instead of a short pulse. Meaning that you keep the food proccessor blending the items for 3 to 4 seconds longer instead of the 2 second shorter pulse.

Step 2- Add the Flour mixture and 2/3 cup ice cold water into a large bowl. Stir all ingredients with a large sturdy wooden spoon until the mixture starts to come together. Once the mixture starts to come together, form the mixture into a dough using your hands. Form the dough into a ball and place into fridge for freezer for 15 to 20 minutes.

Apple Bourbon sauce
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 3- Melt 4 tablespoons unsalted or salted butter into a medium-sized pot. Next add 1 and 1/2 cups apple juice, 1/2 cup Bourbon whiskey, 2/3 cup water, and 2 teaspoons cornstarch. Stir all ingredients with a whisk until combined.

Step 4- Add 1/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon all-spice, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Stir all ingredients together. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Once done turn your fire off and let the mixture cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Apples
Step 5- Rinse all apples off with cold water. Peel each apple using a fruit peeler. Cut each apple in half. Once done you’ll have 8 apple halves total.

Note- If you have a single apple corer where it cuts directly through the center of each apple without cutting the outside of the apple, it is reccomended that you use that. If you don’t have one procceed to step 6 below.
Step 6- Insert a sharp knife through the left and right side of each apples core. From there take a serrated knife and insert it into the incision you cut into each apple core and continue to cut toward the upper end of the core. From there the core of the apple should pop out.
Picture demonstrations are below.

Step 7- Place the cored apple halves into a large bowl with the (cut portion) of each apple is facing upward. Sprinkle 2 to 3 teaspoons cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar onto the apple halves. Rub the cinnamon and the sugar onto each apple halve with your hands concentrating more on the cut portion of the apple where the core used to be. Note- You can also add a small amount of brown sugar and melt a small amount of unsalted or salted butter and rub that onto the apple halves as well. Picture demonstration is below.

Rolling out the dough
Step 8- Lightly flour the surface of your table. Add the dough on top of the table. Press the dough down with your hands, forming a flat rectangle. Sprinkle flour on top of the dough. Roll the dough out into 27 inches long by 12 inches wide rectangle. The dough should also be thin as well.

Step 9- Cut an incision into the center of the dough going down the length. Once done cut 6 inch wide pieces of dough going down the width. Once done each piece of dough should be 6 by 6 square. The end pieces of the dough maybe larger than expected, that is normal.

Forming the dumplings
Step 10- Pick up each piece of dough from the top of the table and place into your hand. Place an apple halve onto the center of the dough with the cut portion of the apple half facing upward. There are 4 corners on the dough square. Take each corner and fold it over the apple bringing it toward the center of the apple halve. Once done you’ll have another 4 corners of dough but smaller. Bring those toward the center of each apple halve. Press the dough down with your thumbs to seal. Picture demonstrations are below.

Baking the apple dumplings
Preheat oven to 375-degrees F.
Step 11- Pour the prepared Bourbon apple sauce into a 10 by 13-inch deep dish glass pan.
Place the apple dumplings into the baking pan. If you’re having trouble with over crowding of the dumplings, a baking pan larger than 13-inches in length will work as well to accomdate the dumplings.

Step 12- Whisk together one large egg with a fork. Lightly brush the top of each apple dumpling with the egg mixture.

Step 13- Mix together 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 or 3 teaspoons cinnamon into a small bowl. Lightly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the each dumpling.

Step 14- Place into a preheated 375-degree oven on the middle rack. Bake for 1 hour. Once done remove the dumplings from the oven. Let the dumplings cool for 30 to 45 minutes before serving. They are best served warm over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
