Pork & beans and rice 2026 version

What you’ll need
53 ounce can Van Camps Pork & beans
2 pounds D&D smoked sausage
1 pound pork jowl bacon
Salted or unsalted butter
Sugar
1 yellow onion
Zatarain’s long grain par-boiled rice

Preparation of ingredients
Step 1- Chop half of a yellow onion.


Step 2- Chop 1 pound of smoked pork jowl bacon into small cubes. Make sure you trim off skin at the bottom of the pork jowl bacon first before you cut it.


Step 3- Cut 2 pounds of D&D smoked sausage into thick slices.

Searing the smoked sausage and bacon
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 4- Let a large 8 quart pot get hot for 1 to 2 minutes. Add chopped smoked pork jowl bacon and stir. Let saute for 9 minutes stirring occasionally.


Step 5- Add cut D&D smoked sausage into the same pot with the cut bacon and stir all ingredients together. Let saute for 8 minutes stirring occasionally.


Step 6- Add the smoked sausage and pork jowl bacon into a large strainer with a shallow bowl underneath it. Stir the ingredients while in the strainer. This will allow the oil to drain. Remove the strainer from the shallow bowl and set aside.


Cooking the pork and beans
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 7- Let a large 8 quart pot get hot for 1 to 2 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons salted butter and chopped yellow onion. Stir all ingredients together. Let saute for 6 minutes stirring occasionally.


Step 8- Add 53 ounces Van Camps Pork & beans, 2/3 cup sugar, 2/3 cup water, and 6 tablespoons salted or unsalted butter. Stir all ingredients together. Cover your pot with a lid, let simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.


Step 9- Add your cooked smoked sausage, and smoked pork jowl bacon. Stir all ingredients together. Let simmer for 4 to 5 minutes stirring occasionally. Once done give the mixture a quick stir and the pork and beans are done. Let cool for 30 to 45 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to settle and increase.


Cooking the rice
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 10- Add 3 and 1/4 cups water and 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon salt into a medium-sized 4 quart pot. Stir all ingredients together and let come to a simmer. Add 1 and 1/2 cups Zatarain’s par-boiled long grain rice and stir. Turn your fire down to medium low heat. Cover your pot with a lid. Let simmer for 20 to 22 minutes. Do not stir the rice at any time during the cooking process.


Step 11- Once the rice is finished cooking turn your fire off and let the rice cool for 15 to 20 minutes. After that stir the rice and let it finish cooling. From there it’s ready to be served.
