Seasoned Cheeseburgers

Makes 5 cheeseburgers

What you’ll need
2 1/2 pounds ground beef chuck
Hamburger buns (Link to recipe is at the bottom)
Sliced Extra sharp cheddar cheese
Salted butter

Seasonings
Salt
Black pepper
Tony Chachere’s creole seasoning
Garlic powder
Zatarain’s crab boil
Zatarain’s creole mustard (Optional)
Yellow onion
Green bell pepper

Vegetables and toppings
Iceberg or Romaine lettuce
Tomato
Pickles
Mayonnaise
Mustard
Ketchup

Tools you’ll need
Cast iron skillet
Salad spinner

Preparation of ingredients
Step 1- Chop 1 yellow onion. Rinse off bell peppers and tomato. Chop 1 to 2 Bell peppers and slice tomato into thin or thick slices. Peel 2 to 3 layers of leaves off ice berg lettuce. Rinse lettuce off with cold water and add into a salad spinner. Spin the water and moisture from lettuce and place into bowl. Once done, place all items into fridge.


Step 2- Add ground beef, 1 1/4 cups chopped yellow onion, 1 cup chopped green bell pepper, 1 or 2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1 or 2 teaspoons Tony Chachere’s creole seasoning, 1 or 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 1/2 or 1 teaspoon Zatarain’s crab boil and 1 or 2 teaspoons Zatarain’s creole mustard (Optional) into a large bowl. Combine ingredients with your hands and set aside.

Forming and shaping Hamburger patties
Step 3- Add 9 ounces of ground beef mixture into the palm of your hand and roll it into a ball. Place onto a chopping board and press down with your hands. Each patty should weight 9 ounces and have a diameter of 5 to 7 inches.

Toasting the Hamburger buns and Frying the hamburger patties
Preheat fire to medium heat

Step 4- Add top and bottom portions of hamburger buns into cast iron skillet. Let toast for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Do not add butter or oil into skillet.


Step 5- Melted 3 tablespoons salted butter and brush the butter on to each individual portion of hamburger bun and set aside.

Hamburger patties
Preheat fire to medium heat

Note- Frying times vary. It can take more or less time depending on the size of the Hamburger patty, the skillet or pan you’re using, and the heat setting on your stove.


Step 6- Add hamburger patty into cast iron skillet. Let fry for 7 to 8 minutes of each side. 14 to 18 minutes total frying time. Add 1 slice of extra sharp cheddar cheese 1 minute before the cooking time ends. Once done, place patties on to the bottom portion of hamburger buns.


Step 7- Add mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato and pickles onto the top portion of hamburger bun. Once done flip top portion of each hamburger bun onto the bottom portion and press down slightly and serve.
