Candied Yams from scratch (Stove Top)

What you’ll need

4 large Sweet Potatoes

1 Cup Regular Sugar

1 Cup Brown Sugar

1/2 stick of Unsalted butter (You can increase to 1 stick of Unsalted butter)

4 Cups Water

1/2 Cup of light corn syrup

1 Tablespoon of Vanilla extract

2 heaping teaspoons of Cinnamon

1/4 heaping teaspoon of All spice

Tools you’ll need

Potato peeler

Large pot

Peeling and Washing Sweet potatoes

Step 1- Using a potato peeler. Peel all 4 Sweet Potatoes.

Step 2- Rinse off each Sweet potato with cold water

Step 3- Cut Sweet Potatoes in large chunks going down the width of the potato.

Step 4- In a large or medium sized pot Add 4 Cups of water and 1/2 stick of Unsalted butter. Let butter melt and mixture should come to slight simmer. You can increase the 1/2 stick to 1 stick of unsalted butter if you like

Step 5- Add 1 Cup of Regular Sugar, 1 Cup brown Sugar and 1/2 cup of light Corn syrup. Mix until well combined and let mixer come to slight simmer.

Step 6-Add 1 tablespoon of Vanilla, 2 heaping teaspoons of Cinnamon and 1/4 heaping teaspoon of All spice mix well and let mixture come to slight simmer for 2 minutes.

Step 7- Add Sweet Potatoes. Cover with lid and let cook for 45 minutes. Once done Sweet Potatoes will be soft and the water mixture should have turned into a nice thick syrup.

Flavor for the Sweet Potatoes will increase overnight and will have a better flavor the next day!
